What to know when applying to become a Texas Notary Public

Make sure you meet Texas Notary requirements. You must be 18 or older, a state resident, and have no felony convictions.

A Notary bond is required. To become a Notary in Texas, you are required to secure and file a $10,000 Notary bond with your application.

Training is required. Beginning January 1, 2026, all Texas Notaries are required to take a training course through the Texas Secretary of State website and pass with a score of 70% or higher.

Submit your application: Complete and submit your application through the Texas SOS Portal along with proof of your bond, course completion certificate and application fee.
